This year (2022) MICH has successfully placed 10 young people in affordable homes in Manningham or surrounding areas. This has been due to a close
relationship with a housing association, HousingFirst.
The key to access an affordable home is to be registered on the Victorian Housing Register. This allows rents to be subsidised so that a person on a low income of a pension will not have to pay any more than 1/3rd of their gross income each month.
MICH has now built up considerable experience in helping young people and their families navigate the registration process and then apply for housing. There is a new Practice Note available here that provide practical information on how this can be achieved.
As always, if MICH members encounter difficulties, we can help guide you through the registration process.
