February was a good month for MICH and its members!
Two young couples moved into their brand new, affordable apartments at the Alpine development in Doncaster East. These apartments came to us from HousingFirst and we look forward to a longer term relationship with the housing association.
We were also able to arrange for a new member to move into one of the original MICH homes at the Tullamore Estate in Doncaster.
This year HousingFirst have also offered us two, 2-bedroomed apartments at the PACE development in Blackburn and some single apartments in the Panorama. If you or your family member are interested in these or any other affordable homes that MICH might facilitate, please contact Jan Hanos on 0488 998 240 or Jan@MICH.org.au. It would help greatly if you completed and sent us one of the Expression of Interest forms here.
One of the most important lessons we have learnt recently, is that young people looking for affordable homes must be on the Victorian Housing Register. There is more information about that here. Importantly, it is best if you don’t apply for registration using a paper form – but rather do this through MyGov. We’ve now steered number of young people through that process so please contact Jan Hanos by phone on 0488 998 240 for her advice before starting.
Importantly, take a note of the date, time and referenced number when the application is submitted as this information is vital to make sure you are ‘moved to the front of the queue’. You’ll have to let MICH know that information so we can pass it on to a housing association.
