Ian Holowko

Ian was awarded a leadership award for his exceptional leadership in bringing together a corporate entity, local community, government, a housing provider, and carers to develop a housing project and programs that benefit young people with an intellectual disability in the City of Manningham. Gail Dick

Gail was awarded an impact award; primarily for her tireless efforts to found and keep running the Doncaster All-Abilities Basketball, which now caters for over 250 players. Those who know Gail are in awe of her efforts for people with intellectual disabilities in basketball and in MICH.

Australian Honours 2018 list


Carolyn J Vimpani OAM

Carolyn was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia for her services to the Manningham community in the area of disability. She was a founding member in 1981 of the current Manningham Access and Equity Committee and has been involved for over 20 years in REAL, which focuses on community inclusion for adults with an intellectual disability. Besides other community groups, Carolyn is a current member of MICH’s executive committee, focusing on preparing people to move into a home of their choice in the community and working with all levels of Government and industry to achieve this goal. Lionel Allemand OAM

Lionel was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia for his services to the Manningham community and local government. Lionel has an extensive list of achievements covering twice being former Mayor of City of Doncaster and Templestowe, co-founder of the Tynan Eyre Committee (now Blue Ribbon), Police Association Victoria President, and founder of Manningham Promoting Character. Lionel is currently the Secretary of MICH along with numerous other community roles.

Update on transition projects


Towards a Better Life

The Towards a Better Life project will support members who are preparing to live in a home of their own in a highly relevant way, with targeted work that would assist in gaining good outcomes in their transition from the family home. The project is based on building a network around each person, upskilling the people in that network, and supporting them for a year to do the work with the young person. Read more here.

The MICH Joint Venture, a joint venture between Rotary District 9810 Charitable Services and MICH, is funding the Towards a Better Life program via a grant from the Manningham Charitable Trust and generous donations from supporters.

Update on accommodation projects


Manningham Inclusive Community Housing (MICH) at Tullamore Estate

Community Housing Ltd (CHL) has filled vacancies in two new, 2-bedroom Town Houses in the Tullamore Estate. These homes are under construction and are a result of a partnership between MICH, MIRVAC, CHL, and the Victorian Property Fund. The two, 2-storey Town Houses are adjacent to each other and each Town House comprise two bedrooms, two bathrooms, lounge, dining and kitchen, and lock up garage. A tenant application and selection process was completed in September 2017. Four members of MICH are preparing to move into the accommodation in the first half of 2018.

Montgomery Street Re-development

Manningham Council is planning a re-development of council real estate at Montgomery Street, East Doncaster. MICH partnered with a well-established, prominent developer and national provider of affordable housing, who bid for the re-development. The bid was unsuccessful. 

Other projects

MICH is in discussion with a number of property owners regarding other re-developments.

New Accommodation Options


New accommodation options in the Tullamore Estate, Doncaster, for young people with a mild intellectual disability.

Community Housing Ltd (CHL) has vacancies in two new, 2-bedroom Town Houses in the Tullamore Estate. These homes are being built as a result of a partnership between Manningham Inclusive Community Housing (MICH), MIRVAC, CHL, and the Victorian Property Fund.

This accommodation would be suitable for short or long term shared living arrangements. Partnered or married couples would be considered.
